Women Wanna Wrestle: The Road to WOW

You may not know this, but professional wrestling is hard. It takes a lot of work to deliver the exciting matches you see in the ring day in and day out. What’s even more impressive are the women who do it and the stories they tell. WOW – Women of Wrestling is an independent all-female wrestling program that airs weekly in syndication on CBS stations and episodes are available to stream on Pluto TV. It is run by David McLane, the same creator behind the cult-favorite women’s wrestling program GLOW (which stands for Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling), and his business partner Jeanie Buss, the co-owner of the Los Angeles Lakers. In this new four-part docu-series covering the league, we explore the lives of several women in WOW and what drew them to this intense sport.

The women in WOW are referred to as superheroes, and there is no better way to describe them. They have all overcome so much adversity in their lives to get to where they are today. This series explores this, as we learn about these superheroes’ struggles, their character, and where they get the source of their strength. From Americana and her fight for her son to G.I Jane and her difficult military background, each woman in WOW defied the odds and proved their ability to rise above and come out victorious.

In each episode, we take a close look at 3 unique superheroes with diverse perspectives thanks to their varying personalities and origins. Some, like Tiki Chamorro, struggled with PTSD. Others, like Kandi Krush, were completely devastated after being unable to accomplish their dreams. But despite their many setbacks and difficulties, these women persevered and accepted their next challenge: to step in the squared circle. WOW is an independent wrestling league, filmed primarily in one location, and it houses talent that is still developing. There is a good chance that many of the women you see here will eventually join major companies like Impact Wrestling, AEW (All Elite Wrestling), or WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment).

Along with developing wrestlers, there are some veteran superheroes who are there to help them out, like WOW World Champion Santana Garrett, who has wrestled all over the world, 4th generation wrestler Tessa Blanchard, and executive producer AJ Mendes, formerly known as WWE Divas Champion AJ Lee. Learning under these incredible talents helps the WOW superheroes hone themselves physically and deliver exciting matchups for years to come.

Hearing how these women got to WOW is simultaneously thrilling, impressive, and empowering. Listening to them tell their stories is just as riveting as watching them throw down with the best of them. Prepare to be WOWED in more ways than one when you watch this fantastic, inspiring docu-series.
